Have you ever done autumn cleaning? We are all familiar with spring cleaning as the most important cleaning of the house happens in spring. But experts say that autumn cleaning can be vital in achieving a healthier winter.

Why is autumn cleaning important?

Winter is coming, which means it’s time to close your windows up and turn your heaters on. When this happens, all the accumulated dust and dirt from the summer season gets locked inside of your home. When pollen and dust are locked inside & accumulated throughout your home, it can make your seasonal allergies worse.

With the temperature drop and it’s time for the windows to be closed, and the heating is on, fabrics in our home can be the haven for mites, molds, germs, and bacteria from all the accumulated dust and dirt from the summer season. And it only takes a deep autumn cleaning to help the chances of having a healthy winter.

After the Bank holidays at the end of August, finally, we’ll have the time to deep clean and be ready for winter. We can take advantage to do all the cleaning possible that will be impossible to deal with when the cold season comes. Autumn cleaning is a way of not only tidying the house but also it is a preparation for the winter.

Here are a few autumn cleaning checklists:

1. Windows

Although spring and summer are popular times to clean your windows, autumn cleaning is a great time to deal with the dirt accumulated during summer. The view of the trees changing colour through the windows is more stunning with a clean windowpane.

2. Upholstery

It is important to make your surroundings clean and cozy by giving your upholstery a refresh. If your sofa is smelling a little strange, it’s time to give it a refresh. Remember that just spraying a little bit of freshener on your sofas would not get rid of the dust that had built up during the summer season.

So be sure to clean your sofas up – wash the cushion covers and vacuum down the cracks.

3. Carpets

Carpets tend to accumulate so much dust and dirt. So, you don’t have to wait until spring to deal with the dust and dirt.

Autumn is the ideal time for carpets to dry quickly

4. Curtains and Drapes

The best way to clean and dry the curtains is to hang them and let them dry naturally. During the early autumn, the weather still allows you to do such outside.

5. Kitchen

We spend a lot of time in the kitchen during the cold season and of course cook a lot for the holidays. This is why cleaning your kitchen during autumn is important.

Over time, dust builds up inside your kitchen cabinets and requires considerable effort to remove them. The nice thing about having a deep autumn clean of your home is to lighten up the pressure for the holiday season.

Moreover, with the festive season coming up, you will need more space for your fridge/freeze. This meaning that you will need to clean your fridge/freezer in advance so you can empty the contents before cleaning it.

Autumn always gives the feeling of a fresh start. So help bring this feeling to your home, too.

You’ve got a month before autumn comes.
