Last 10th November 2021, the dataset on the energy efficiency of dwellings, environmental impact, estimated CO2 emissions, and estimated energy cost in England was released.
Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) indicates the energy efficiency of a dwelling. It is based on the dwelling's energy features, such as the materials used, the heating systems, and insulation. The data is collected by an accredited energy assessor and entered a government-approved software to generate a score for the EPC, banded from A to G, where A is the most energy-efficient.
The scores associated with each energy efficiency band are as follows:
· band A – 92 plus (most efficient)
· band B – 81 to 91
· band C – 69 to 80
· band D – 55 to 68
· band E – 39 to 54
· band F – 21 to 38
· band G – 1 to 20 (least efficient)
Here are the data from the report:
- London has the highest median energy efficiency score, compared with all other regions in England.
- Flats and maisonettes are the most energy-efficient property type for all dwellings in England.
- The least efficient property type is semi-detached.
- The energy efficiency of owner-occupied dwellings scored the lowest in England.
- The age of a dwelling affects the energy efficiency of the building.
- Dwellings in England after 2012 has a median energy efficiency score of 83 which is equivalent to band B.
- Dwellings constructed before 1900 had a median score of 54 in England, equivalent to band E.
- Victorian homes have an energy efficiency of E.
- In London, mains gas is the most common source of central heating fuel.
- There are more new dwellings in London compared to existing dwellings. And when it comes to environmental impact score, the new dwellings have less impact on the environment.
