The kitchen is one of the focal points of a house. It can be considered the heart of a home. It’s where we cook, eat, and at times socialize with family and friends. If the kitchen space is small, at times it feels restricted.

So how to maximise small kitchen spaces?

1.     Choose the right appliances and kitchen essentials

With a bit of clever planning, a small kitchen can look and feel comfortable and spacious by choosing the right appliances and kitchen essentials that have attractive patterns and colors as well. Choosing the right colours scheme to make the kitchen look more inviting and comfortable. This requires clever planning.

Your counter space should be clutter-free and that’s not going to happen if you opt for large appliances or oversized appliances, Choose compact appliances to save space without sacrificing style. These days, there are several compact appliances that serve well and at the same time provide style and save you more space in your kitchen. So invest in compact dishwashers, microwave ovens, cooktops, and other food processing appliances.

2.     Use the space above the cabinet

Don’t waste the space above the kitchen cabinets. Pots, pans, and other extra kitchen accessories can be placed there. Of course, all the pieces should be placed well. Maybe you can buy wire baskets and have them lined up to give you a clean-looking space. This will also draw your eyes upward, which gives you the illusion of having a bigger kitchen space.

3.     Get a cutting board that can fit over the sink

Having a cutting board that fits over the sink can maximise the space when by making your kitchen multi-functional. Moreover, it is easier to prepare food that way.

4.     Make use of the kitchen walls

Another way to add personality to your kitchen without putting so much artwork and décor is by filling your walls with hooks and shelves when you run out of space.

A magnetic mounted knife strip works wonders in a small kitchen space. So keep your best knives and tools easy to reach by placing magnetic mounting strips for knives. It is a clever solution for a small space and more hygienic than just storing them in traditional wooden blocks or drawers.

You can also put metal strips on your spice jars and you can just hang them on the wall. There are endless possibilities.

5.     Use the unused spaces in your cabinets

Now, if you look into your kitchen cabinets, you might see that they’re full. However, there is more to that space than what meets the eye. Look at that space!

For example, for tall cabinets, there can still be unused space. This is where shelf risers come into play, and you can also affix a hook or a rack to the inside of the cabinet door - it’s a handy place to hang small utensils.

Finally, when choosing the color schemes of your kitchen. Take note that lighter hues give a clean and airy feel while walls that are dark will make it feel smaller and crowded. So, for a small space kitchen, use colours that create a spacious and clean-looking ambiance.
