In every house, there is a need for more space. Regardless of how small your apartment is or how large your house is, we all seek the need to maximise the space to make our house feel spacious and welcoming.
There are plenty of methods and techniques you can in order to have more space in your house.
#1 Declutter
Start, decluttering your home and remove things that you don’t use or need anymore. The 80/20 rule is a good principle to apply when decluttering.
According to the 80/20 rule, you technically only use 20 percent of your things 80 percent of the time. So when you’re downsizing your possessions remember to keep the possessions that you use often and get rid of the rest.
The rule applies to our possessions such as clothes, books, toys, video games, and more. For example, when it comes to clothing, we only use 20 percent of our clothes we own 80 percent of the tome.
There are plenty of ways to declutter, but the simplest way is to go room by room and separate everything to three categories: keep, sell/donate, and trash.
#2 Use multifunctional Furniture
Have you ever realized your living room or family room gets the messiest without even trying?
These areas in your house get the most traffic from friends and family watching tv or even you, sprawling out of the sofa.
Maximise the space with multifunctional furniture. A few key pieces can turn a small room into a space that is functional and beautiful. Versatile pieces free up space and give you room to breathe.
For example, you can have ottomans in your living room to hold accessories for video games and coffee tables with drawers.
#3 Give the illusion of more space
Do you feel like you’re cramped? You can always create an illusion of more space without knocking down the walls with the use of mirrors. Mirrors can make a room look bigger.
Also, mirrors reflect both natural and artificial light to make a room brighter. So, placing a mirror near a window to reflect the world outside is exceptionally effective especially if your home is near a view.
#4 Build More Storage
Clutter around a flat or apartment can make the place smaller and feel tight. Building storage will allow an owner or renter stash more items in an organized and classy way.
Storage spaces can be added in the kitchen, bedrooms and living rooms. There are a lot of clever ways to add storage space in your house.
For example, a headboard that has small shelving units – it can create space for books, candles or even plants.
